Chittagong Customs House has slapped Z&Z Intimates Ltd with a fine of Tk56 crore for moving a Rolls-Royce car imported through Chittagong port without paying customs duty.
Chittagong Customs Commissioner Mohammad Faizur Rahman signed the fine order on October 12.
According to the order, Z&Z Intimates Ltd violated Sections 9, 10, 16, 18, 80 and 111 of the Customs Act, 1969 and was involved in “smuggling”.
The order also directed the importer to pay customs charges, fines and forfeiture penalties within 30 working days.
The order mentioned that even if Z&Z Intimates applied as an export-oriented firm, it would not be eligible for duty-free benefits.
As a result, in addition to the fine, they would have to pay Tk28.29 crore in customs duty.
Earlier, on July 6, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) confiscated the luxury Rolls-Royce automobile worth Tk27 crore from the capital's Baridhara area.
Z&Z Intimates Ltd, a firm owned by Ananta Group and a Hong Kong citizen, imported it from the United Kingdom's Vertex Auto Ltd on May 17.
