Several clashes took place between two groups Bangladesh Chhatra League of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) over a trivial matter, such as using the restroom.
The incident took place between Sust Chhatra League Deputy Office Secretary Sajibur Rahman and followers of Chhatra League leader Mamun Shah at Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall of the university on Friday.
Witnesses say the clash took place after Shimul Mia, a student of the Department of Political Studies, and Moslem Bhuiyan, a student of Bangla department got into an argument.
Later, followers of Mamun Shah, allegedly beat Shimul Mia in his room, ensuing a clash between the two groups.
Extreme tension developed between the two factions as a result. Both party’s workers were seen carrying sharp weapons and sticks.
Later, both Chhatra League leaders met to discuss the issue in the hall's guest room.
When questioned about the argument, Sajibur Rahman and Mamun Shah said that they had previously fought, but, the issue has been resolved now.
Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall Provost Mohammed Abu Sayed Arfin Khan Arfin Khan told reporters that there was a conflict between the two factions of Chhatra League.
He later warned that anyone who stirs up trouble will face the consequences.
