A microbus carrying members of Bogra’s Sonatola police station has been allegedly robbed in Sirajganj.

The incident took place on the Dhaka-Sirajganj highway in Mulibari area of Sirajganj on the west side of Bangabandhu Bridge early Wednesday.

Police sources said that a woman of Sonatola upazila recently ran away with her lover.

Based upon a kidnapping case filed by her family in this regard, investigating officer Sub-Inspector Abdul Khalek and Constable Abul Kalam Azad went to Dhaka in civil dress on a hired microbus to rescue the victim and arrest the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Three-four alleged robbers threw stones at the microbus while they were returning to Sonatola police station with the victim during midnight. As the microbus driver stopped the vehicle, the miscreants seized two mobile phones and Tk10,000-12,000 from the passengers after threatening them with local weapons.

Saikat Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonatola police station, refused to comment on the matter.

Sirajganj Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mondal said that law enforcers are trying to nab the miscreants.
