The parents of Sharif Hossain, a Bangladeshi peacekeeper who lost life in the line of duty in the Central African Republic on Tuesday, mourned for the loss of their son.

Such a scene of mourning and tears was seen at Sharif’s house in Bara Kharua village of Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday.

Sharif’s parents Lebu Talukdar, Panju Ara Begum and wife Salma Khatun could not stop crying while his relatives and villagers went to the house to console them.

Sharif Hossain joined the army in 2018. He went on a peacekeeping mission a year ago.

Panju Ara Begum said that few days back Sharif told her that he was at a very dangerous place.

“I don’t want to stay here. I want to come home,” he had told her, adding tearfully: “But he couldn’t come back.”

Sharif's younger brother Kaushar Hossain said: “About fifteen days ago, my brother called and told me that he would come to the country after two months.”

Sharif’s wife Salma could barely say a word. She continued: “Where would I go now?”
