The death toll from Tuesday’s trawler capsize in the Bay of Bengal climbed to four with the recovery of the body of a girl from the Monkhali sea beach area in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar late at night.

Saidul Rahman, sub-inspector of Inani Police outpost, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Locals spotted the body of the girl aged about 5 and informed the police, the SI said.

Later, the body was handed over to Teknaf Shamlapur police.

Earlier, three bodies of Rohingya women were recovered after the trawler carrying a group of people capsized in the Bay of Bengal while they were illegally trying to leave for Malaysia on Tuesday.

The bodies were recovered from Shilkhali area of Baharchara of Teknaf.

The deceased were identified as Tayeba Khatun, 18, Kismat Ara, 17, and Salma, 18, residents of Ukhiya Rohingya camp.

Besides, Bangladesh Coast Guard on Tuesday rescued some 45 people, including eight Rohingya women, 33 men and four Bangladeshis.

They were going to Malaysia on a trawler with help of some middlemen, but the vessel sank near the Baharchara area of the sea due to strong current, said Officer-in-Charge Noor Mohammad of Teknaf's Baharchara police outpost.

Some of the rescued Rohingya said there were about 85 passengers on the trawler, and 65 of them are Rohingya refugees, according to the sources.
