Woman killed in Tangail road crash

At least 40 people were injured in the accident

A woman was killed and at least 40 people were injured following a collision among three buses, a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Amena Begum, 45, wife of Abdul Hamid of Baguntol village in Ghatail upazila.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway in Elenga area as a Northern district-bound truck hit a Tangail-bound auto-rickshaw. Later, three buses—Rajdut Paribahan, SI Enterprise and Naogaon Travels—hit the truck from behind, leaving 40 people injured, said Zohurul Haque, in-charge of Elenga Highway police outpost.

Among the injured, two critically injured women were rushed to Tangail General Hospital where Amena succumbed to her injuries, said the police officer. 

The vehicular movement on the highway came to halt for some time after the accident, added the  police officer.
