Six held with stolen goods from Rampal power plant

The law enforcers managed to seize stolen goods worth Tk6 lakh, one motorcycle and 9 mobile phones

Police on Saturday arrested a syndicate of six robbers from a trawler docked at the sewage gate of Khulna’s Batiaghata upazila’s Katianangla for allegedly stealing valuables from the Rampal coal power plant, also known as the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project.

The arrestee were identified as Md Kabir Sheikh, 42, Md Babu Sheikh, 26, Md Jaber Sheikh, 25, Md Mohsin Gazi, 24, Mikail Sheikh, 22, and Abu Huraira Molla, 24.

The law enforcers managed to catch the gang members along with a trawler with stolen goods including iron rods worth Tk6 lakh, one motorcycle, and 9 mobile phones have also been seized. 

RAB-6 Director Lt Col Mohammad Mostak Ahmad Md Asaduzzaman said acting on a tip-off, Rampal police conducted a drive in the Rupsa River and nabbed them. 

The gang steals valuable goods and sells them off at a high price, he further added. 

A case was filed with Batiaghata police station mentioning six people including top robber known as Kabir Dakat over the matter.

Kabir Dakat was named in 14 cases - three arms cases, one gang rape case, five attempts to murder cases, and three cases of stealing.
