One passenger was killed and 11 injured when an electric pole smashed inside a bus in Faridpur.
The incident took place on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Kaijuri Union in Faridpur Sadar at around 12pm on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Nazrul Islam, 38, of Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj district, Karimpur Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kangar Kumar Biswas said.
The electricity pole was being lifted in a truck when a Kushtia-bound speedy bus of “Talukdar Paribahan” hit the pole.
At the same time, a JR Paribahan bus that left from Darshana towards Dhaka hit the same electric pole and fell into a ditch. At least 11 passengers on that bus were injured.
The highway police rescued the injured and rushed them to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Faridpur Sadar Liton Dhali went to the hospital to visit the injured.
Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarker said that Tk10,000 was sent to the victim’s family for burial. Authorities would also help with the medical expenses for the injured.
