A Rohingya volunteer was hacked to death at a camp under Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased is Mohammad Jafor, 35, son of late Badiur Rahman and a resident of Camp-18. He was a volunteer at the camp.
Md Faruk Ahmed, Armed Police Battalion (APBn) assistant superintendent of police, said that Jafor was guarding the entrance of Camp-18 in the early hours of the day when some miscreants coming from Camp-17 entered the camp and opened fire. Later they hacked Jafor and left him critically injured.
Upon receiving information, APBn members rushed to the spot and took him to MSF Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Faruk Ahmed said that security at the camp was strengthened following the murder. Law enforcers were conducting drives to arrest the criminals, he added.
The relatives of the victim were planning to file a case in this regard, he further said.
