Narayanganj Awami League Vice President Mujahidur Rahman Helo Sarkar has been accused of threatening a leader of Sheikh Russel National Children and Youth Council.

Amit Saha, general secretary of the Gazipur metropolitan committee of the youth body, filed a general diary in this connection on Sunday at Basan police station in Gazipur.

Earlier, on the night of September 15, Mujahidur threatened Amit, following which an audio recording of their over three-minute conversation went viral on social media.

In the recording, Mujahidur is heard telling Amit: “Do you know me? Why did you put a red mark on my picture if you know me? I am a dignified chairman of [Narayanganj sadar] upazila. You put a stain on my picture, you know what is going to happen to you?”

Amit in response tells Mujahidur not to threaten him.

Mujahidur then calls Amit a cockroach and mentions his power.

Mujahidur first claimed that he was not the one heard in the recording, adding that he would file a case in court against Amit.

He later said Amit had called him to tell him about posting his picture with a red mark on it on Facebook.

“I told him that when a cockroach gets on its feet, it needs to be thrown away. I did not know that he would get angry at me, record the conversation and post it on Facebook. I am an upazila chairman. I have a reputation in this area. No one can say I have ever slapped anyone. But after seeing the picture, my team members rang me up to tell me about the incident,” he added.

Amit said Mujahidur introduced himself as president of Sheikh Russel National Children and Youth Council organization's central committee even though he did not hold the position.

“I posted the picture on Facebook after which he called me on September 15 around 8:30pm and threatened me. In this connection, I filed a GD at Gazipur's Basan police station,” Amit added.
