185kg sailfish caught in Kuakata

A fisherman caught a 185kg sailfish from Kuakata coastal area of the Bay of Bengal in Barisal on Thursday.

The fisherman, Jahangir Majhi later took the fish, which is 12 feet in length and 1.5 feet in width, to Mahipur fishing port for sale.

Later, a fish trader named Yunus Boyati bought the fish for Tk25,000, as these fish have no demand in the coastal areas.

In this regard, Kalapara Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said that the fish are usually found in the deep sea, and almost never get caught.
