Hundreds of farmers have blocked Rangpur-Dhaka highway for three hours demanding the urea fertilizer amid the supply crisis.
The agitators staged the protest from 9am to 12:30am on Saturday in Pirganj, Rangpur..
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the highway during the protest, confirmed Pirganj police station Inspector (Investigation) Mahbub Rahman.
Farmers said that they were not able to procure any urea fertilizer even after protesting at retail shops and dealers for the last ten days, even though they were willing to pay extra.
Upon receiving the information, the senior officers of the Agriculture Extension Department came to the spot and promised to supply fertilizer to the farmers within two hours, resulting in the farmers lifting the blockade.
Later, from noon two trucks with 500 tons of urea fertilizer were brought from Rangpur to Pirganj.
