The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a member of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam.
The police arrested Md Rabby in Narayanganj Sadar upazila on Thursday.
They had also confiscated two of his SIM cards and a cell phone, Assistant Commissioner of Police Amit Kumar Das said on Friday.
He said the police had noticed a Facebook post that read “'Must kill those who insult Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)”, prompting an investigation which later led to Rabby’s arrest.
The police officer also said the police had noticed the promotion of the ideologies of banned militant organizations Ansar al-Islam and al Qaeda alongside militant propaganda posts in collaboration with other members of militant organizations.
The police had applied to remand Rabby, he added.
