Hundreds of villagers of Shuktail village under Gopalganj Sadar upazila blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway on Saturday morning protesting against the death of a businessman named Farhad Sheikh in a road accident in Gopalganj.
They blocked the highway at Gopinathpur bus stand area of the upazila for one hour demanding the widening of the road, eviction of illegal constructions, and arrangement of alternative crossing on the highway.
At this time, hundreds of vehicles got stuck on both sides of the road.
Police and Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mohsin Uddin came to the spot and assured the villagers to fulfil their demands.

Following the assurance of the administration, we have lifted the blockade giving a two-day ultimatum.”
Sabbir Rahman, inspector of Gopinathpur Police outpost of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, said that traffic movement in the route returned to normal as the villagers lifted the blockade with the assurance of the administration.
