A mobile court has fined 22 traders in Chittagong a total of Tk44,500 for keeping stores open after 8pm, defying government orders.
Four executive magistrates conducted raids from 8:30pm to 10pm on Friday.
A total of eight shops in the city’s Kotwali area’s Shagorika Market were fined Tk20,000.
On the other hand, six hotels were fined a total of Tk11,000 in a raid led by Executive Magistrate Rajib Hossain.
Executive Magistrate Tanveer Hasan Chowdhury fined eight stores in Kazir Deuri, Khulshi and Jamal Khan areas a total of Tk13,000.
Again, four stores from different parts of the city were fined a total of Tk5,500 in a raid led by Executive Magistrate Umar Farooq.
On June 17, the government ordered shopkeepers and businessmen to close shops, shopping malls by 8pm every day, to save electricity amid rising prices worldwide.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed to take necessary steps to save electricity and energy under Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006.
