Students of a Rajshahi school have reportedly assaulted a teacher, who is accused of slapping their fellow.
The incident was reported from the district’s Chhatari High School on Wednesday.
According to sources, teacher Jahidul Islam Juel slapped a female student at the school on August 9.
Later, other students of the school wrote a complaint to the principal demanding punishment for the teacher’s behaviour.
The principal assured the students that the school would look into the matter the next day.
However, as no steps were taken, the students chased the teacher around the campus.
When Juel locked himself in a bathroom, the agitated students broke the door and assaulted him.
Later, the upzila nirbahi officer (UNO) and police brought the situation under control.
The teacher, Juel, said: “While I was teaching, a student was being inattentive towards the class. I asked her to pay attention several times, but it did not work. Hence I slapped her.”
Meanwhile, a three-member probe body, headed by Livestock Officer Dr Rokuzzaman, was formed over the incident.
The committee has been asked to submit a report within the next three days, UNO Sharmin Akter said.
Actions will be taken after the probe report is submitted, she added.
