Police have arrested three robbers with weapons while they were preparing for a robbery in Chittagong's Raozan upazila.

They were arrested by conducting special drives in various areas of the upazila on Wednesday morning, Md Anwar Hossain, assistant superintendent of Chittagong police, confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.

The arrestees were identified as Md Nurul Abshar, 43, Kamrul Hasan Titu, 55, and Giyas Uddin Bablu alias Saddam, 30.

As many as two modern US-made AK-22 rifles, one Italy-made 7.65 pistol, one three-not-three rifle, one barrel gun, one LG, ten shotgun cartridges, 113 rounds of bullets, and a motorcycle used in the robbery were recovered from the arrestees, said police.

Anwar said that at least 17 cases were filed against Kamrul Hasan Titu, including the 1996 Noapara police camp loot and police killing, the sensational Srikanth Rakshit murder, and the murder of Noapara Awami League leader Mubarak.

“Titu began working as an organizer of a gang of robbers and hired killers after losing his right leg in a shootout with police on February 9, 2015. Nurul and Giyas, on the other hand, primarily work as hired killers and robbers,” he added.

The accused were sent to jail through a Chittagong court.
