Police arrested a youth on the charges of strangulating his 12-year-old cousin after rape in Faridpur.
The detainee was identified as Rasel Shikder, 18, of Rupapat union in Boalmari upazila.
A case was filed in this regard at Boalmari police station on Monday following a complaint received from the victim’s family.
According to police, on Sunday evening, Rasel called his cousin home when he was alone to pay back some due he had in her father’s shop.
Then Rasel raped her and strangled her to death with her scarf and left her body in the bathroom of the house.
Later, the victim’s family member recovered her body and informed the police.
The alleged was arrested from the upazila and the body was sent for an autopsy, said Suman Kar, assistant superintendent of Faridpur police.
Investigation in this regard is going on, he added.
