The protestors demand to allow the delegation of the United Nations Human Rights Commission enter the Chittagong Hill Tracts to monitor the human rights situation

Various organizations in Chittagong on Saturday formed a human chain programme to protest against extrajudicial killings, illegal detentions in the name of arms recovery and re-arrests from jail after bail in the country.

A procession from Kadam Mubarak of Chittagong circled the press club area and the human chain was held at Cheragi intersection. At this time, they displayed placards with various demands.

Hill Women's Federation representative Daya Sona Chakma and PCP CHBI branch President Miton Chakma spoke in the procession under the direction of Amit Chakma, city secretary of Pahari Chhatra Parishad, and Shubo Chak, acting president of Democratic Youth Forum.

The speakers protested against human rights violations across the country including the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

They said that a delegation led by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet will visit Bangladesh on Sunday.

However, the Bangladesh government has reportedly not given permission to the delegation to visit the Chittagong Hill Tracts, they added.

Speakers strongly criticized the government's decision and urged the government to allow the UN delegation to visit the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
