A man has been fired for committing identity theft by using the name of a resident of Kulaura, Moulvibazar illegally at work for 18 years.
Sylhet Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Kamal Hossain, head of the investigation committee of the incident, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “We have investigated and submitted a report about the three persons to the higher authorities. Among them, a person identified as Moin Uddin Khan, serving as a prison guard, has been fired.”
“I have recommended that departmental action be taken against other two persons identified as Zahirul Islam and Shafiqul Islam who are serving as prison guards. The higher authorities will decide on the reinstatement of the victims,” he added.
Victim Zahirul Islam took the recruitment test in 2003 for the post of a prison guard. Police verification was also done after passing the recruitment.
After some time, he did not get the joining letter. Giving up hope of employment, he started a textile business.
After 18 years, he found out that another person was working in that position by using his name.
The probe committee found the truth of the incident by investigating the matter.
When asked about whether there was any evidence that who was involved in the recruitment fraud, the DIG said: "It was a long time ago. Many of those who worked on recruiting back then may be retired now. So the matter could not be clarified.”
