Pineapple growers of Madhupur in Tangail are now busy bringing the fruits to the market as they have a good yield this year.
Jalchhatra haat, the biggest wholesale market in the upazila that is organized every Friday and Tuesday, remained abuzz with buyers and sellers from different parts of the district since every dawn.
Pineapple growers said Madhupur in Tangail is called the capital of pineapple. This region’s pineapple is incomparable in taste and smell.
Apart from Madhupur, there had been a good yield of pineapple in the Paharia area in Ghatail and Sakhipur upazilas due to the heatwaves.
Jaldugi or Honey Queen and Calendar varieties of pineapples are mostly cultivated in Madhupur, Ghatail and Sakhipur area’s hilly areas.
Pineapple growers and traders said that pineapples are being sold at Tk20-25 which will be Tk100 in Dhaka. But the farmers are always deprived of getting proper prices.
