The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the key accused in the case filed over the assault of a journalist in Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur.
RAB officials nabbed Japan Mollah, 45, brother of Alfadanga Municipality Mayor Saifur Rahman Saifar, in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka on Wednesday.
The elite unit would turn over Japan to the police, RAB-8 chief Lt Md Shahidul Islam said.
The assaulted journalist, Mujahidul Islam Nayeem, filed the case accusing two named persons and several unidentified people on Tuesday.
Accused Parul Begum, 50, was sent to jail through court later that day.
Japan and his associates attacked Nayeem on Monday following an altercation over one Ramij’s bus ticket. Ramij had boarded a bus of Rajdhani Paribahan, whose counter Japan manages, and he had been told that he had not paid for his ticket. Ramij had sought Nayeem’s help over the matter.
People nearby took him to the local upazila health complex. Nayeem was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
