A Chittagong court on Tuesday sent six men to jail who were arrested over the gang rape of a woman in the district.
The incident took place under Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury flyover near GEC Bata Gali under Khulshi police station at around 2am on Sunday.
Santosh Kumar Chakma, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi police station, told the Bangla Tribune that the six accused dragged the victim, 26, from a rickshaw on her way home after working at the factory at night on Sunday.
“Later, they took her under the Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury flyover and raped her. In this situation, the rickshaw driver called the National Emergency Service number 999 and reported the matter,” he added.
Then the police reached the spot and arrested three people while the rest escaped.
However, the other three were also arrested in a raid on Monday night.
The victim was admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Chittagong Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.
In this incident, the elder brother of the victim filed the case in Khulshi police station as the plaintiff.
