Women who recently gave birth at Labib Private Hospital in Mymensingh are taking turns to feed the girl child who was born during a road crash that killed three members of her family on Saturday.
“She does not have a mother, so I’m feeding her,” Rabeya Khatun who gave birth to a son four days ago, told Dhaka Tribune.
“I’ll be here for another couple of days and can feed her,” she added.
According to Hospital Director Md Shahjahan Mia, the child is healthy and under regular observation.
He added that it will take another 15 days for the injury to one of her fingers to heal.
Responding to queries on whether the child will be given up for adoption, he said: “Right now all that matters is that she gets well. The matter of adoption will be decided after speaking to her grandfather.”
On Saturday, the girl child was born during a road accident that left three of her family members including her parents dead on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
The tragic accident occurred around 2:30pm near the Court Building area in Trishal upazila.
While crossing the highway, a speeding Mymenshingh-bound truck knocked them down, leaving all three family members dead on the spot.
