Love ushers American woman to Gazipur

The couple first met on Facebook in January and later got married in March

A woman from America has flown thousands of miles to Sreepur upazila of Gazipur to be with the Bangladeshi man she fell in love with just a few months ago online.

Lydia Luza Khan arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 3am on Monday. From there, her husband Imran Khan welcomed her and took her to his house in Gazipur.

People from the surrounding area, including neighbors, congratulated the couple on Monday. 

Lydia Luza is a native of Arizona state of USA. She is the only sister of two brothers.

She converted to Islam before marrying Imran and took his family name “Khan”. She previously had a job in USA. However, she is currently unemployed.

Imran Khan, of Barmi Kumarvita area of the upazila, is a student of East West University in Dhaka. He is now looking for a job after getting married.

Lydia said that she liked Imran when they were talking on Facebook. 

“With the consent of both the families, I converted and reached the decision of marriage. Imran is an honest man along with many Bangladeshis I have met,” she added.

She mentioned that her mother-in-law Anwara Begum was ill. Therefore, she will go to America sometimes but she will stay at her husband’s house mostly. 

“When my mother-in-law recovers, Imran and I will move to America,” she observed.

Imran said that they were introduced through Facebook in the last week of January. “A month later, Lydia Luza proposed him for marriage. At first, I could not believe her offer. "

“Later, at the beginning of March, Luza came to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Bangladesh. Being an American citizen, she thought she could come to Bangladesh without a visa. However, the airport authorities sent her back for not having the visa,” he added.

Imran further said that, with both families' permission, they later decided to meet in Nepal and tied the knot in a mosque there. 

Although there was no one with Luza, Imran was with his family members at the time After spending a few days there, they returned to their respective countries and reunited on Monday.
