21 DU students rescued by army from Surma River

They are being brought to Sylhet

The 21 students of Dhaka University (DU), who were stranded in the Sumra River when a launch carrying them broke down, have been rescued by Bangladesh Army on Sunday.

The students and all other passengers of the launch are being brought back to Sylhet, according to ISPR.

On Saturday, a launch carrying about 100 passengers including the DU students broke down, and they were trapped in the middle of the river.

The stranded passengers called the National Emergency Service 999 and sought help from the local administration. 

The DU students went to Sunamganj on June 14, and were trapped at Pansi Restaurant while visiting Tanguar Haor.

At the request of the DU Administration, Sylhet Sadar Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Hossain took charge and rescued them.

They were moved to Sylhet District Police Lines on Friday.
