A clash erupted between the locals of Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj and police, over arresting 31 people for attacking SI Syed Azizul Haque.
Residents of Adamjee Bihari Camp surrounded the Siddhirganj police station at around 8am on Monday.
According to media reports, protestors have also blocked the Chashara-Adamjee road since morning.
The protestors threw brickbats at the police officers when they tried to remove them from the road, leading to a chase and counter-chase.
After that, the police fired tear gas and more than 50 rubber bullets at the locals to bring the situation under control.
In this regard, Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Zayedul Alam said: "We have arrested some people from the area, not only for attacking one of our coworkers, but for their involvement in several illegal activities.”

Despite the protests surrounding the police station, no injuries have been reported, he added.
In the early hours of Monday, police arrested 31 people in connection with the attack on Siddhirganj police station Sub Inspector (SI) Syed Azizul Haque.
On Friday, hundreds of Muslims protested over the recent anti-Islam remarks by BJP leaders in India after Jumma prayers. However, the protesters alleged that the police interrupted them from participating in the demonstration.
At that time, locals launched an attack where SI Syed Azizul Haque was injured.
On Saturday, Siddhirganj police SI Mirza Shahidul Islam filed a case in this connection.
