Update : 07 Jun 2022, 01:16 PM

A 20km tailback was reported on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway due to rain and separate road crashes on Tuesday.

The traffic congestion started from the east of Bangabandhu Bridge and continued till the Rabna area of Tangail Sadar upazila, said Bangabandhu Bridge East police station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam.

A vehicle collided with a truck on the east side of the bridge at 12am on Tuesday, leaving two people injured.

Another road accident was reported on Bhuapur Link Road around the same time, he added.

Police have removed the vehicles from the road, and are currently working to control the traffic condition on the highway.

Meanwhile, passengers and trucks carrying perishable goods are suffering on the highway due to the gridlock.

Khaleq Mia, a driver of Sirajganj-bound SI Paribahan bus, said: “I managed to move 1km since 8am. It seems it would take at least a few more hours to cross the bridge.”

Many drivers complained that the goods would rot if they did not reach their destinations on time.
