A local leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed by unidentified people in the Cheragi Hill area of the port city on Friday night.
Victim Askar Bin Tareque alias Evan served as the religious affairs secretary of the BCL’s Jamalkhan ward unit. He was a second-year student of BAF Shaheen College.
Locals said he was killed in infighting over establishing supremacy in the area.
Zahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said Evan went to Cheragi Hill around 10:45pm to meet his friends.
At one stage, a group of miscreants appeared there and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving Evan injured.
He was taken to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Police said Evan might have been killed over an internal conflict but the actual reason will be known after investigation, said the OC.
