Police arrested a woman in Satkhira's Patkelghata on Tuesday for cutting off her husband's genital on suspicion of him having an extramarital affair with another woman.
The man, Mehedi Hasan, 28, is undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Mehedi of Versa village fell in love and got married seven years ago to Sharmin Begum, 23, of nearby Bakshia village. They have a four-year-old son.
After marriage, however, there was often unrest in their family. Since the last fortnight, Mehedi had threatened to marry a second time and the two were living separately.
On Monday evening, Sharmin tactfully asked him to sleep in the same room. After that, when he fell asleep at night, Sharmin cut off her husband's genital with a sharp knife.
Patkelghata police station OC (Investigation) Bablur Rahman Khan said Sharmin was arrested after her father-in-law filed a case against her.
