At least 17 people were injured in several clashes between two rival groups in Faridpur’s Saltha upazila over establishing dominance.
The clashes took place in Morhat-Aguldia-Joyjhap area of the upazila, on Friday morning and Thursday night during Sehri, said Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Suminur Rahman of Nagarkanda-Saltha Circle.
According to locals, supporters of Ayub Thakur and Khorshed Kha fought for dominance over the area using locally-made weapons.
They have also reportedly vandalized and looted several houses.
In response to reports from the locals, police rushed to the spot and were able to control the situation. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area, said Senior ASP Suminur.
