Three children were killed in a landslide on a hill in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura Upazila on Saturday when they were trying to find a bird’s nest.
The deceased were identified as Sumon Mia, 15, son of Tachibur Rahman, Nahid Ahmed, 14, son of Abdus Salam, and Abdul Kabir, 9, son of Abdul Karim. They all hail from west Islamnagar under Bhatera Union.
Kulaura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Binoy Bhushan Roy said the police were working to determine the cause of the accident.
West Islamnagar panchayat chief Safar Uddin said that the boys entered a pit after seeing a bird's nest in a rubber garden on Ghagrachhara hill.
The landslide happened immediately after and they died on the spot, he added.
Locals rushed them to Fenchuganj Upazila Health Complex in Sylhet where the on-duty doctor declared them dead on arrival.
Bhatera UP Chairman Syed AKM Nazrul Islam also confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer ATM Farhad Chowdhury said that he would visit the families of the deceased to share his condolences.
Landslides are commonplace mainly during the monsoon in the hilly areas of Bangladesh including Chittagong and the hill tracts.
