Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four people, including the wife of a man who killed himself on Facebook live on February 12 in Rangpur’s Pirgachha upazlia.
Shamima Yeasmin Shathi, 23, her father Md Shahjahan Islam Badal, 50, sister Bithi Akhter, 30, and brother-in-law Md Imdadul Huq were arrested on Friday.
They were arrested on charges of inciting the suicide of 30-year-old Imroze Hossain Rony, RAB-4 chief Additional Director General Mozammel Hossain told the media.
They have admitted to the crime during initial interrogation and have been turned over to the Pirgacha police.
Imroze, a day laborer married Shathi four years ago and they have a child together.
Recently, they had been having arguments and Shathi’s family had been demanding Tk500,000 of the mahr (an obligation in the form of money or possessions paid by the groom, to the bride at the time of Islamic marriage) as well as other expenses from Imroze, says RAB.
At one point, Shathi went to her uncle’s house and when her husband went to bring her back, her family insulted him and turned him away.
On February 12, Imroze went live on Facebook and consumed poison, blaming his wife and her family for his death.
