According to Osman’s relatives, he went to jail through a mobile court on March 14 over drug charges.

His sister-in-law Mukul said: "I have learned from various sources that a prisoner gave some marijuana to Osman. After learning about it, the jail guards tortured him inhumanely. He later fell ill and died at the hospital.”

However, Jail Superintendent Abdur Rahim claimed that Osman had been addicted to drugs for the last six years according to the doctor's report. He used to get sick and get treatment in the jail hospital due to drug abuse.

“He was found in possession of marijuana on the day he arrived at the jail, but he was not tortured. On the contrary, he died due to illness,” Abdur claimed.

Meanwhile, Anser was sent to jail on January 18 as an accused in a murder case of Lalpur Upazila of the district.

Anser died around 4am on Friday after having chest pain, said the jail superintendent.
