Wall-collapse kills worker, injures 6 in Rajshahi

Around 17 workers were working at an under-construction building

A worker died and six others were injured when a boundary wall collapsed on them in Rajshahi on Saturday.

The incident took place at Chhotobangram area under Chandrima police station in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Reazul Islam, 38.

The wounded were undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Abdur Raquib, of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the injured workers were rushed to RMCH where one of them succumbed to his injuries.

Emran Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandrima police station, said around 17 workers were constructing an RCC pillar of an under-construction multi-storey building when the wall suddenly collapsed around 3pm.

Nine of them were working at the same place where the wall collapsed, he added.

One of the labourers Razib Hossain, who escaped unhurt, also confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, Didarul Islam, assistant director of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense, said they have completed the rescue operation as there is no chance for any other to be trapped under the rubble.
