At least 30 people were injured during clashes between two factions of the local Awami League over supremacy at a fertilizer factory in Jamalpur.
The incident took place at a unit of Jamuna Fertilizer Company Limited in Sarishabari Upazila on Thursday.
Local people said that the two factions led by local AL leaders Ashraful Alam Manik and Rafiqul Islam engaged in clashes ahead of workers union elections at the factory. The clashes left 30 including police and journalists injured, they added. Police fired blank shots to bring the situation under control.
Jamalpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), Md Zakir Hossain Sumon, said that they deployed additional members of law enforcers in the factory area to avert any untoward incident.
