Khulna Shipyard to build Cutter Suction Dredger for BIWTA

BIWTA is building 11 dredger bases and expanding its dredger fleet to enhance capacity and efficiency

Khulna Shipyard Limited, a ship construction and repair yard owned by the Bangladesh government and managed by the Bangladesh Navy, has been awarded the tender for the procurement of 4 Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD), with other ancillary vessel and accessories as well as required infrastructure construction.

Khulna Shipyard signed a contract with Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in this regard on Thursday.

It is the first Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) project for Khulna Shipyard, which will be built for the BIWTA, according to a media statement.

BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadek, BIWTA Chief Engineer (dredging) Md Abdul Matin, Khulna Shipyard Managing Director Commodore M Shamsul Aziz, Khulna Shipyard General Manager (design & planning) Captain M Fida Hasan were present at the signing ceremony among others.

Khulna Shipyard will be the first shipyard of Bangladesh government to build Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) in Bangladesh. 

With more than six decades of reputation, it leads the shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh and has built every kind of vessels addressing the rules and regulations from the most important international classification societies.
