A school teacher in Gopalganj was beaten up with shoes by women after he attempted to rape a minor female student at his home.
The incident was reported from Bandal village in Kotalipara Upazila on Sunday.
The accused, Basudeb Shil, 55, a math teacher at the Kotalipara Public Institution, is on the run. He used to give tuition to the sixth-grade female students of the school at his home.
File photo of Basudeb Shil | CollectedOn Sunday, Basudeb gave leave to all the students except for the survivor, and attempted to rape her. The girl managed to flee the scene and told her mother about the incident.
The mother then went to the teacher’s house along with several other local women, and gave him a good beating with shoes before he escaped.
The survivor said: “The teacher touched me inappropriately every day during our classes. On Sunday, when he tried to violate me, I ran away.”
The girl’s mother demanded justice, and said: “Basudeb is an abomination as a teacher. I want him to get punished, so he does not dare to do such a thing again.”
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Mahbubur Rahman said that Basudeb would be charged if the allegations were true.
Kotalipara police station Officer-in-Charge Md Zakaria said: “No one has filed any complaints about the incident yet.”
Basudeb could not be reached over the phone.
