A 27-year-old worker died at a ship recycling factory in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Ariful Islam Sujan, a resident of Fultala village in the district's Sonaichhari union.
He worked as a cutter at Kabir Steel Shipyard.
The accident occurred at 1:30am when Sujan was hit by an iron rod while working. His co-workers rushed him to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda police station said the body will be handed over to the family after an autopsy.
"Legal procedure is underway in this regard," the OC added.
