Missing fisherman’s body recovered after 3 days in Barisal

He went fishing on Thursday evening

The body of a fisherman has been recovered three days after his boat sank in a collision with a launch in Arial Khan River in Babuganj upazila of Barisal.

The deceased was identified as Masum Khan, son of Ismail Khan, from Gazipur village under Chandpasha union of the upazila.

Locals recovered the body from Arial Khan River in Gazipur area of Chandpasha union of the upazila on Sunday evening, according to Babuganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aminul Islam.

He said divers of Fire Service and Civil Defense divers had failed to recover Masum’s body after searching all day on Friday.

At around 6pm on Sunday, locals saw Masum's dead body floating in the river near the brick field of Sayem, half a kilometer away from the spot.

According to family sources, Masum went fishing on Arial Khan River on Thursday evening. 

He went missing when the fishing boat he was on sank in the early hours of Friday following a collision with a Payasarhat-bound launch coming from Dhaka.

Injured fisherman Delwar was rescued by other fishermen and admitted to Barisal Sher E-Bangla Hospital.
