At least 13 houses were gutted in a fire in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Saturday.
Fire Service and Civil Defense officials said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a house at Jelapara village of Kumira area in the upazila around 3.20am and quickly engulfed the surrounding houses.

Atiqur Rahman, a firefighter at Sitakundu fire station, said on receiving information, two units from the local fire station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze at around 5.20am.
Damages in the fire were estimated at around Tk4,00,000 initially, he added.
