At least thirteen people were injured when supporters of two chairman candidates in the upcoming union parishad (UP) polls were locked in a clash at Satkania in Chittagong.
Twelve of the injured were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) following the incident. Ten of the injured were released after primary treatment, CMCH outpost in charge, ASI Alauddin Talukder told Dhaka Tribune.
The incident took place at Gani Para area of Khagaria UP on Thursday.
The policeman said that the clash broke out between the supporters of Awami League-nominated candidate Aktar Hossain and independent candidate Jashim Uddin at around 12:30pm over supremacy.
Police said they had deployed additional law enforcers in the area following the clash.
They did not make any arrest over the incident as there was no complaint filed, said police.
On Wednesday, 18 Awami League members were expelled from the south district unit of the party for participating in the polls going against the party’s decision.
UP polls to 16 union parishads under Satkania upazila are scheduled to be held on February 7.
