Awami League leaders in Dupchanchia Upazila of Bogra have claimed that Mahbuba Nasreen Rupa, arrested for suspected involvement in leaking question papers to government job seekers on January 22, did not possess membership in any committee of the party.

Yet, she held positions in the executive bodies of AL’s district and Dupchanchia Upazila units.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police on Friday arrested 10 people, including Dupchanchia Upazila Vice Chairman Rupa, for their alleged involvement in leaking question papers to government job seekers.

They were arrested during raids in Mirpur, Kakrail and Tejgaon areas from noon till night, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter in a media call on Saturday.

Following her arrest, Rupa lost position in both the units.

According to Bogra district AL unit Office Secretary Al Raji Jewel, Rupa was included in the 11-member upazila executive committee of the party. He, however, could not confirm whether the same person could possess a similar post in the district committee.

Some other local leaders, however, said that Rupa used her political might to grab both the posts.

A test was held on Friday for the recruitment of 550 auditors for the Defence Finance Department.

Police arrested the gang members based on intel that they were involved in leaking question papers of the test and supplying answers to candidates through digital devices and mobile apps.

The arrestees reportedly confessed to earning a huge sum of money by leaking question papers of different recruitment tests.
