AIUB holds international conference on sustainable development
The event brought together renowned scholars and practitioners from 15 countries

The American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) organized its first international conference on sustainable development on Wednesday.
The two-day long event, titled “Sustainable Development: Opportunities and Challenges,” was hosted by the university's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, said a press release.
Renowned scholars and practitioners from 15 different countries working in the fields of economics, English, law, media and mass communication and public health participated in the program.
State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
He appreciated the efforts of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of AIUB in arranging the international conference on sustainable development.
He said this kind of conference will play an extremely important role in Bangladesh, as the country is continuously growing under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Other educational institutions in Bangladesh could also follow AIUB's lead in organizing conferences that contribute to Bangladesh's sustainable development goals, the minister added.
He also expressed gratitude to the sponsors and other stakeholders.
The event, held both virtually and in person, featured a total of 30 sessions, 87 papers, 6 keynote speeches, and two panel discussions.
The conference aimed to explore the sustainable development challenges and opportunities faced by both developed and developing countries.
It is hoped that the conference will spur collective efforts towards people-centered development, the organizers said.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr Hasanul A Hasan participated in the closing ceremony virtually.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr Tazul Islam and Associated Dean Dr ABM Rahmatullah congratulated all the participants whose papers were selected and expressed appreciation to the university management and sponsors for making the event possible.
