Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy allegedly for impregnating a schoolgirl in Tangail upon promise of marriage.
The boy, hailing from Gopalpur Upazila, is a student of class ten at a local school.
Police said that the girl, a grade seven student, had a romantic relationship with the boy.
Five months ago, the boy had sexual intercourse with the girl on multiple occasions alluring her of marriage. At one point, she got pregnant.
On Tuesday night, the father of the schoolgirl filed a rape case with Gopalpur police station.
Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain said that they had arrested the boy on Wednesday night and he was sent to the Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Thursday.
The judge sent him to Gazipur Juvenile Development Centre after he was produced before the tribunal.
