Jamalpur Ward 10 Awami League President Syed Golam Sarwar was killed in a road accident in the town on Monday.
According to locals, the deceased was returning home on a motorcycle when a speeding car came from behind and crushed him.
Witnesses said he was found lying in a critical condition in front of the municipal garbage dumping station on Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital Road around 4:30pm.
Locals rushed him to the hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased's brother Syed Jobaid Jaman Chappal said that the killer vehicle could not be identified yet.
Rezaul Islam Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar police station, confirmed the incident.
