The government has decided to extend the Mujib Year, a year of celebrations for the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, till March 31.
The timeframe has been extended as it was not possible to arrange all the Mujib Year programs in 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic, according to a notification from the Cabinet Division.
The government had originally announced March 17, 2020, to March 26, 2021, as the Mujib Year. The end date was first extended to December 16, 2021 and has now been extended for the second time.
The tenure of the national committee implementing the celebrations has also been extended to March 31.
The remaining programs include paying tributes at the Mausoleum of Bangabandhu at Tungipara, a folk fair, award ceremony of an online quiz competition, the printing of various publications, official work of the national implementation committee, handover of office equipment, papers, and publications to the authorities concerned, completion of financial activities, closing of bank accounts, and audits, among others.
