10 injured in Bogra clash over Victory Day celebration

15-20 motorcycles were vandalized

At least 10 people were  injured in a clash between Awami League and BNP activists while paying their respects at the Shahid Minar on the occasion of the Victory Day in Bogra on Thursday. 

The incident took place at Nandigram bus stand in the morning.

According to locals, a group of Awami League activists led by Nandigram upazila acting president Rafiqul Islam went to the Shahid Minar to pay their homage at 7:30am.

At that time, Bogra 4 MP Mosharraf Hossain went to the Shahid Minar with his followers as well.

When the BNP leaders started chanting slogans demanding the release of party chief Khaleda Zia, a clash broke out between the groups.

At least 15-20 motorcycles were vandalized at that time.

Burail union Jubo Dal Joint Convener Shohag Hossain, 26, was stabbed as well.

The situation came under control when police arrived at the spot, Nandigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said.

BNP leader Mosharraf claimed police failed to provide security as seven of his activists were injured during the clash.

Awami League’s Rafiqul Islam claimed that the BNP activists were the ones who had initiated the attack. At least three to four activists were injured during the incident.

The two political parties boycotted the Victory Day celebrations following the incident.
