Road crashes claim 9 lives across country

Several motorcyclists are among the deceased

A total of nine people were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents on Thursday.

Two people including a child were killed in two separate road accidents in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore.

Abdul Motin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gurudaspur police station, said 10-year-old Sabbir was hit by a motorcycle near Nayapara area of the upazila, and died on the spot, reports UNB.

The motorcyclist managed to flee the scene after the incident, the OC added.

In another incident, Sanowarul Islam, 23, was run over by a speeding bus in Nayabazar area of the upazila.

On the other hand, a grandmother and her granddaughter were killed in a head-on collision between a pick-up and an easybike at Faridpur's Nagarkanda area on Thursday. 

Five more passengers were injured in the incident.

Locals and fire service personnel rescued the injured and admitted them to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Nabirun Nesa, 56, of Kumarpatti village in Salthar upazila, and Moina Akter, 17, daughter of Rafiq Sheikh.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Alam of Bhanga highway police station, said the bodies have been handed over to us by Nagarkanda Fire Service. “The legal issue is under process in this case.”

Another couple on a motorcycle have died after being hit by a sand truck in Mymensingh's Trishal on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Emdadul Haque, 35, of Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia, and his wife Nargis Akter. They used to work in Bhaluka garments.

Trishal police station OC (Investigation) Abu Bakar Siddique said as Nargis died on the spot, locals took the injured Emdadul to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition. 

“He was later pronounced dead at noon while undergoing treatment.”

He further said, after receiving the information, the police went to the spot and recovered Nargis’s body and motorcycle and brought it to the police station. 

Emdadul’s body was transferred to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

In Khulna, a young man named Al Amin was killed in a road accident in front of Nurnagar Passport Office on Thursday.

He was injured on Wednesday night but was admitted to Gazi Medical College Hospital. He died while undergoing treatment.

The victim is the cousin of journalist Abu Tayyab Munshi.

Sonadanga Police Station SI Al Amin said an inquest report was prepared and the body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy. “After the autopsy in the afternoon, it was handed over to his cousin.”

Meanwhile, two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured as the vehicle lost control and collided with a tree on Habiganj-Shaistaganj road in Old Bazar Rail Crossing area under Shaistaganj upazila of the district Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as Siam Miah, 30, of Nandipara village in Baniachong upazila and Fahim Miah, 28, of Dashpara area of the same upazila, reports BSS.

OC Ajay Chandra Dev of Shaistaganj police station said the youths were going from Baniachong to Shaistaganj new bridge on two motorcycles when they lost control and collided with a jackfruit tree on the side of the road.

Later, the three injured were taken to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the two dead.

Besides, one injured was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, the OC added.
