Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostofa has announced that he will get the city's sacrificial animal wastes disposed of within 12 hours starting from 2pm on Thursday.
“We have taken all the measures in this regard,” he said, urging the city people to cooperate the city corporation's cleaners.
Mayor Mostofa was talking to reporters after inaugurating the citywide waste cleaning campaign at the city's Shapla Chttar area.
The city, according to a government official, has the demand for nearly 210,000 sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.
“But this time around, no fewer than 150,000 animals have been purchased for the annual Muslim festival,” he told Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
The animal waste of some 2,500 square km area of the city was removed by 12noon on Thursday, sources at the city corporation said.
RpCC fixed 117 spots under its 33 wards for slaughtering sacrificial animals. It also deployed nearly 1,500 cleaners and distributed a large cache of bleaching powder for the speedy implementation of the cleanliness campaign.
